One small question to all of you.. All of us follow western guidelines for treatment of Indian patients. Will western guidelines match the profile of Indian patients? Why we don't have guidelines for many diseases in India. What is preventing us from developing our own guidelines?
What's your opinion?
Note- I am not against guideline from another country. It's my humble opinion that blindly following guidelines will not be appropriate. Docs tend to do so.. guidelines should match our population, eating patterns, BMI, climatic conditions etc etc....
Every country has its own 'appropriate technology given its tradition and culture. And that technology needs to be used in the medical field also.I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteexactly! here we follow all international guidelines and most of us proudly declare we follow international guidelines. nobody bothers to think will it suit my lean , malnourished patient.. neither do the patients ask.
Deletei've been saying it for a long time.. the International guidelines are all fine and good, no doubt, but we need to modify it at the very least to match our general status of Indians too. What constitutes malnutrition is the easiest example that comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteya true.. following international trends in clothes and mobiles is ok.. but when you are talking about life in hands i think we need to indianize a little and be logical in our thinking. our patients need it..
